NRI Quota MBBS Admission in Gujarat Medical Colleges 2026

The NRI quota MBBS admission in Gujarat Medical Colleges allows NRI students to pursue medical education in the state. Under this quota, a certain percentage of seats in medical colleges are reserved for NRI candidates. This initiative aims to attract talented NRI students who wish to study medicine in Gujarat and contribute to the healthcare sector. The NRI quota allows students with an NRI background to secure admissions based on their eligibility criteria and relevant entrance exams. This provision enhances diversity in medical colleges and strengthens the global connections of Gujarat's healthcare education system.



Instructions for NRI Category Students

 

  1. The PIN for the NRI quota in Gujarat MBBS colleges can be purchased online at medadmgujarat.org. The cost of the PIN is Rs. 3000/- (non-refundable) plus a refundable security deposit of Rs. 25,000/-, totaling Rs. 28,000/-.
  2. Candidates can register online by visiting the admission committee's website at medadmgujarat.org.
  3. For candidates applying under the NRI quota, the registration confirmation, document verification, and submission must be made at the Office of ACPUGMEC/ACPPGMEC, GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar.
  4. Candidates must schedule an appointment to verify and submit document copies at a Help Center. They can select the date for document verification while printing the Registration Slip.
  5. After submitting the online application, candidates are needed to submit a demand draft of Rs. 25,000/- payable to "ACPUGMEC" in favor of Gandhinagar as a processing fee at the ACPUGMEC/ACPPGMEC, GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar office only.
  6. Detailed information about the admission process can be found on the website medadmgujarat.org. Visiting the website frequently for updated information from the admission committee is advised.
  7. Applications for admission will only be considered if they are accompanied by notarized copies of the certificates and all necessary documents.
  8. Any document changes or examination marks after applying should be promptly reported to the Office of ACPUGMEC/ACPPGMEC, GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar, with attested copies. Failure to do so will make the candidate responsible for any consequences.
  9. Admission to NRI quota seats in medical colleges will be on the basis of the merit list per the prescribed rules.
  10. Students admitted to a college will be awarded a degree from the affiliated university of that particular college.

 

Definations

 

a) NRI

 

In the context of the admission process, NRI refers to a Non-Resident Indian as defined under the Income Tax Act of 1961 and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) of 1999. The determination of NRI status for the candidate/parent follows specific criteria.

 

Under FEMA rules, an NRI is defined as a person residing outside India who is either a citizen of India or a PIO. Per the Foreign Exchange Management Regulations of 2000, PIO refers to a citizen of any country except Bangladesh or Pakistan. It includes individuals who previously held an Indian passport, whose parents or grandparents were Indian citizens, or those married to Indian citizens.

 

A person resident outside India refers to someone who does not reside in India. In contrast, a person resident in India encompasses various categories, including individuals living in India for over 182 days during the previous financial year, registered/incorporated entities in India, and offices/branches/agencies owned or controlled by individuals residing inside or outside India.

 

b) Person of Indian Origin (PIO)

 

A "Person of Indian Origin" refers to a foreign citizen who is not a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh, or other countries specified by the Central Government. The following conditions determine a person's status as a Person of Indian Origin:

 

  1. They have held an Indian passport at any point in time.
  2. They or their parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were Indian citizens under the Constitution of India or the Citizenship Act of 1955.
  3. They are the spouse of a citizen of India or a PIO, as described in the above two conditions.

 

Eligibilty Criteria

 

According to the Health & Family Welfare Department Notification, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar:

 

a) Eligibility for NRI Quota:

  1. The candidate should be a Non-Resident Indian (NRI).
  2. In the absence of the candidate's parents, their legal guardian should be a Non-Resident Indian.

 

b) MBBS Degree:

The candidate must have an MBBS degree from a recognized college.

 

c) NEET-UG Examination:

The candidate should have appeared in the NEET-UG examination of the current admission year and must have been declared "Qualified."

 

Merit list

ACPPGMEC will grant admission to the non-resident Indian seats based on the following criteria:

 

  1. Interse merit: The selection will be based on the All India Overall Rank at the NEET-UG of the current admission year.
  2. Eligible candidates:The consideration for admission will be limited to candidates who have applied for admission against the Non-Resident Indian seats.

Additional Information:

 

Submission of Documents:
The applicant must produce the original certificates and notarized color copies at the time of application submission.
All mentioned documents must be produced during the interview.
Any discrepancy or incorrectness noticed during scrutiny or after that may result in the cancellation of admission.
Expulsion and criminal action may be initiated against the candidate.

 

Residence in College Hostel:
Hostel accommodation will be offered to students based on availability and the discretion of the Dean/Principal.
The allotment will be decided based on merit/requirements.
Admission to the college does not guarantee hostel admission.

 

Hostel Fees:
Hostel fees will be charged at rates determined by the respective management and must be paid by the student before each term.
Other fees, as decided by the college authorities, are to be paid by the student on par with all other students.

 

Guardian:
Unless the student's father is deceased, no other person will ordinarily be accepted as their guardian.

 

Authority's Rights:
The Chairman of ACPPGMEC reserves the right to introduce new guidelines or modify existing ones to meet the situation's needs.

 

NRI Quota in Gujarat Medical Colleges

Gujarat is one of the most preferred state by NRI’s for MBBS admission as 797 Seats available for NRI Quota in Gujarat Medical Colleges .NRIs and children of NRIs who are either residents of Gujarat or residents of other Indian states are eligible for MBBS admission in Gujarat under the NRI quota. NRI-sponsored students are also eligible but they are considered a second priority. All seats of NRI Quota in Gujarat Medical Colleges are filled by Gujarat NEET UG Counselling.

Eligibility Criteria for NRI Quota MBBS Admission

Students/candidates come under the NRI quota as they are meeting following criteria

  • Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and their children are considered as NRI
  • Students who are children of State or Central Government employees, who are staying abroad on deputation period are considered as NRI
  • Students must belong to Indian origin and live or study in a foreign country.
  • Indian citizens’ children staying abroad for business or employment are also considered as NRI
  • Candidates who are born abroad but the parents are of Indian origin fall under the NRI category

The preference for admission under NRI category shall be considered as follows:

  • Actual NRIs/OCIs/PIOs candidates or children/wards of NRIs/OCIs/PIOs who originally belong to the State of Gujarat or any Indian state and union territory.
  • NRI-Sponsor: If the first-degree relation of the student is an NRI and residing abroad, and the candidate meets the following conditions:
    • He/she should be the nearest relation.
    • The nearest relation includes the following blood relations:
    • Real brother and sister of father (real uncle and aunt).
    • Real brother and sister of mother (real maternal uncle and maternal aunt).
    • Father and mother of father (grandfather and grandmother).
    • Father and mother of mother (maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother).
    • First-degree paternal and maternal cousins.
    • The NRI sponsor should be ordinarily residing abroad.

Admission Process for NRI Quota Gujarat

The NRI quota seats are filled through a counseling process conducted by the state.Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can register for the counseling process on the website.The seats are allotted to candidates on the basis of their NEET score, subject to fulfilling the other eligibility criteria.The complete process can be classified in following steps:

(1) Registration: Candidates must register for the counselling process through the official website  .

(2) Fee and Document Submission of NEET Score: Candidates must submit fee and documents to the Official website.

(3) Document Verification: All the NRI related original  documents are to be physically verified in front of the counselling board.

(4) Merit Deceleration: After document verification a merit list of eligible candidates published on a counselling website.

(5) Choice Filling: Candidates will be allowed to fill their choices of colleges and courses in the online choice filling window. The choice filling window will be open for a few days.

(6) Seat Allotment: The seat allotment will be done based on the merit list and the choices filled by the candidates.

(7) Reporting to the allotted college: Candidates who are allotted a seat must report to the allotted college with the required documents within the stipulated time

NEET Cut-Off Marks for NRI Quota Over the Years

  • Cut off in Government Medical Colleges under NRI Quota in Gujarat – The cut-off for NRI seats in government medical colleges in Gujarat varies depending on the preferences of the applicants. However, in general, seats in these colleges are filled with NEET scores of around 400 or more.

Admission Rounds

Round 1
  1. Main Counselling Registration:

  3. Seat Allotment Round-01:
    The process of allocating seats based on merit and choices filled by candidates.

  5. Reporting at the Help Center:
    Candidates must report to the selected Help Center along with the paid tuition fee receipt.
Round 2
  1. Candidates registered for Round-01 without seat allotment do not need to register again.
  2. Fresh Registration for Round-02 is required for those who did not register in Round-01.
  3. Candidates who have resigned or not reported in Round-01 do not need to register again.
  4. Fresh Choice filling for Round-02 is required.
  5. The result of Round-02 is published on the Admission Committee's website.
  6. Reporting at the selected Help Center with the paid tuition fee receipt is mandatory.
  7. Candidates who have already joined a seat in the MBBS or BDS course through Round-02 of State Quota or AIQ counseling are not eligible for further rounds of State Quota and All India Quota counseling.
Round 3 (Mop-Up Round)
  1. Fresh Registration for Mop Up Round:
    Candidates registered in Round-02 but exited without joining can register again by paying the required fees.
    However, candidates who have already joined and taken admission up to Round-02 in MBBS and BDS courses are not eligible for the Mop Up Round and Stray Vacancy Round.
    Candidates who were registered but not allotted a seat in Round-01 and Round-02 do not need to register again.
  2. Fresh Choice Filling for Mop Up Round:
    Candidates participating in the Mop Up Round must submit their seat allocation choices.
  3. Publication of Mop Up Round Result:
    The result of the Mop Up Round is published on the Admission Committee's website.
  4. Reporting at the Help Center:
    Candidates allotted a seat in the Mop Up Round must report to the selected Help Center along with the paid tuition fee receipt.
Round 4 (Stray Vacancy)
  1. No Fresh Registration in Stray Vacancy Round:
    There will be no fresh registration of students in the Stray Vacancy Round.
  2. Online/Offline Seat Allotment:
    Seat allotment can be conducted online or offline based on the decision of the Admission Committee.
    If the allotment is done online, candidates can participate in the Stray Vacancy Round by giving online consent and filling in fresh choices.
    If the allotment is done offline, candidates must give online consent to participate in the Stray Vacancy Round and be present at the scheduled date, time, and venue for the offline counseling.
  3. Eligibility for Stray Vacancy Round:
    Eligible students who have not been allotted seats in the previous rounds of All India Quota/State Quota counseling can participate in the Stray Vacancy Round.
    All candidates eligible and included in the merit list can participate in all four rounds of State Quota counseling for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and BHMS courses, except those declared ineligible as per the specified sub-rules and items.
